Weekend of Jazz Review

Last weekend, February 27th to February 29th, Beavercreek hosted another successful Weekend of Jazz. At this event there are performances by our local jazz bands, jazz bands in the area, and even some professional jazz concerts in the evenings. This event is always very important to our music community and it is an inspiring musical festival to be a part of.

This year we started off the event on Thursday with some brilliant performances from our very own jazz bands at the high school and middle schools. In total five different jazz bands performed their show for an audience of parents and friends.

The next day was the day of the first concert. This year the first concert was held by The Huntertones, a six-member band that originated in Ohio but is now located in New York. They played a really unique concert and the crowd loved it. Overall there was a very high attendance.

On Saturday we hosted bands from different schools and even a college band and they performed throughout the day. Throughout the day  members of the professional band who were performing that night gave master classes where they gave advice about playing jazz music to aspiring musicians. At night the professional band, the Yellowjackets, performed an outstanding concert to rap up Weekend of Jazz.

Overall the event was  very successful and there was some great music played. I thought Weekend of Jazz was well organized and really awesome. Madelyne Syphus, a junior at BHS, said “I enjoyed the Huntertones and the energy they brought to the stage.” Many other attendees agreed, and overall everyone was really happy with the performances.
