What is Seasonal Depression?

Spencer Hancock, Sports Section Editor

If you’ve been outside recently, you have probably noticed that the seasons are changing. Leaves are falling and the weather is getting colder as we quickly approach winter and colder weather. Here in Ohio, the weather changes are quite dramatic and can really affect the activities we can do and how we feel.

However, some people can be affected by the change in weather more than other people if they have seasonal depression. Seasonal depression is a mood disorder characterized by depression that occurs every year around the same time. This occurs most often during the winter when there is less sunlight, it is colder, and people are forced inside more often.

It is important to be aware of this disorder if you are not already so you can help others who are going through this now that we are switching seasons. Having someone to talk to can make a big difference in their emotional health.
