Celebrating Veterans Day

Nov 11, 2022
Celebrating Veterans Day in America is a very honored tradition celebrated every year on November 11 because World War I hostilities ceased between the Allied Powers and Germany on the 11th hour of the 11th day in the 11th month of 1918. Originally known as Armistice Day, Nov. 11 was meant to celebrate world peace and the end of the first World War. In 1954, Congress changed the name to Veterans Day to express gratitude to our heroes. Typically Americans say “thank you for your service” and “Happy Veterans Day” but there are some more ways that we can for veterans to thank them.
- As many businesses do, you can leave flags outside, don’t necessarily matter if it is big or small, for example, Be Hope Church on North Fairfield road has flags all around the front of the church and everyone who drives by can see them.
- Recognizing them is a good way to honor the men and women who served, at Beavercreek High School, our principal Mr. Wren came over the PA and listed each teacher one by one and thanked them, the administration also posted photos and put slides up on the televisions in the cafeteria so each student can see during lunchtime.
- Serving the veterans as they have done for us is one of the best ways to express gratitude. According to Military.com “For parents of service members, putting on the uniform is filled with pride and fear. Honoring the families of those who serve — through events, special gifts, or recognition — builds positive feelings for your veteran friends.” Maybe a more impactful way to serve is by helping the veterans as a whole community is what you are looking for.
- Also mentioned by Military.com is that “there is no shortage of organizations positively impacting the post-military life of the service member. Engaging your team in volunteering to build a house for a veteran, providing on-site coaching at a workforce center, or handing out supplies at a veteran homeless shelter brings to light the issues facing our veterans, and can raise appreciation for their service with your civilian team members.”
Veterans Day is a day dedicated to honoring those who’ve served us and America. Consider the veterans you currently live with like your parents, friend, and employees. Also, think of the citizens who are in the army right now, thank them for serving, and enjoy your Veterans Day.
