“Red Ribbon Week is the largest nation-wide drug prevention campaign in the US,” said Mrs. Selihammer, the leader of the hope squad. This mission of Red Ribbon Week is to keep kids drug free. Every year there is a nationwide contest to select the Red Ribbon theme. This year’s theme is ‘Life Is a Movie; Live It Drug Free.’ To celebrate Red Ribbon Week, Beavercreek’s Network Club has created various activities for the week. At lunch there is a drug free pledge that students can sign. Students sign a red ribbon, glue it in a scrapbook, and write next to it their reason for staying drug free. For signing the drug free pledge. Students receive a drug free pledge sticker, Smarties with the quote that says ‘I’m Too Smart for Drugs,’ and a drug free bracelet. Also during the week. Network Club selected spirit days. Each day of the week there’s a spirit day with a corresponding theme. For example, Monday is Neon Day because ‘I’m Too Bright for Drugs.’ Any student who participates in the theme day will get a corresponding sticker.
