The world is a beautiful place, so why stay in one spot your whole life? Over the summer, a group from BHS traveled to Italy. We interviewed one of these travelers, Eric Cusick, hoping to understand his experience.
Mr. Cusick was a chaperone during his trip. He said being a chaperone did not hinder his experience of Italy because he genuinely enjoyed everyone on the trip and had few stressors while traveling. The trip’s planning was mostly done by a tour company, but the parts he did have to plan took roughly 1.5 years. He said the extensive planning was absolutely worth it for the wonderful experience.
Overall, the trip adequately covered everything of interest in Italy. Most notably, the Colosseum and Venice. Venice’s beautiful canals and uniqueness compared to other cities stood out. Mr. Cusick wished he had more time in Italy. Only being there for ten days, it was hard to fully experience the country.
On opposite sides of the globe, Italy and the States have many cultural differences. Meals in Italy were much more casual and cafes were more relaxed than in the States. Even though the main language spoken there was Italian, most locals spoke English so communication was fairly easy.
Traveling is a great experience. With proper planning and a good group of people, exploring the world can be amazing. There are so many different cultures and opportunities that you don’t want to miss out on.
