Have you ever listened to Birth of Rap by lil b, the remix of Demons by A$AP Rocky? Have you ever noticed these songs have similar rhythms or background lyrics? Well, they all have a similar song sampled in the background. The Song Just For Now by Imogen Heap has been highly popularized within this generation on various social media platforms because of its use being sampled in songs within the rap genre. With this song being used as a sample repeatedly I feel that the original song itself does not get the attention that it deserves. First, the song and use of electronic music were unique and way ahead of its time. The song was released in 2005 and the sound was unlike any other pop song that was released at that time. The song was originally written for the show The O.C., which is a modern soap opera, but it was deemed too bleak. The intentional meaning behind the song was a family gathering that is suspected to be around the holidays. The song relays the hecticness of the holidays with your family and it reveals the hopelessness that she feels when she just wants to stay civil with her family whilst they are in a disagreement. Overall, I give this song 8/10 stars and I feel that even though it is a still highly popularized song, it is still underrated and its universal appeal and intricate sound set it apart from other music.
