Hollister and American Eagle are currently two very popular stores. Both sell clothes designed for teenagers and have a large customer population. Hollister and American Eagle both have a men’s and women’s section with seasonal wear. Clearly, Hollister is the superior of the two giant chains. To begin, although both stores share many similarities, they also have many notable differences. Hollister was founded and opened on July 27, 2000, at the Easton Town Center in Columbus, Ohio, which is only an hour away from Beavercreek. It is a retail store owned by Abercrombie & Fitch that was a huge hit immediately upon opening, and the hype about the store has yet to die down. Hollister also supports multiple charities through the Hollister Confidence Project. Hollister is all-inclusive and designs clothes for everyone by offering multiple sizes and a “long” option for taller customers. Hollister is also popular among teens today. Cameron Paddock, a junior at BHS, stated that she preferred Hollister’s style of clothes over American Eagle’s: “Hollister, because it is cuter and there is more of a selection.” Hollister offers stylish clothes that are current with the latest trends, which makes it a great clothing store for teenagers. When Paddock was asked what she liked most about Hollister, she stated, “ I like everything there because it’s not too expensive, it’s good quality, and really cute.” Not only is it up to date with the latest trends, but it is also good quality material that will last for years. Overall, although American Eagle is a very popular store, Hollister has many more styles of clothing and a variety of options to choose from. So, the next time you need new clothes, visit your local Hollister.
Why is American Eagle better? I’ll tell you. American Eagle holds distinct advantages over Hollister when it comes to inclusivity, comfort, innovation, and brand trust. First, American Eagle has built its reputation on inclusivity and authentic representation. Its Aerie sub‑brand launched the #AerieREAL campaign in 2014, breaking industry norms by using unretouched models across sizes, races, and body types, and even sponsoring the National Eating Disorders Association, fostering a positive image and resonating with socially‑conscious consumers. American Eagle excels in product innovation, its Next Level 360 jeans blend denim and stretch technology for comfort and fit across body types. This aligns well with its ethos of accessible fashion for all figures. Moreover, the brand’s commitment to affordability, comfort, and trendiness is well‑documented, with a targeted focus on college‑aged consumers and Gen Z. Its clothing, especially jeans, strikes a notable balance between quality and price, fostering substantial loyalty among young adults. Additionally, American Eagle’s scale and financial strength further underline its market advantage. As of early 2024, it operated approximately 1,182 stores worldwide, spanning major markets, and reported over $5 billion in revenue in 2023, clear marks of its appeal and stability. While Hollister recently refocused on teens with trend‑driven campaigns and comfort‑oriented designs, its performance remains modest, and its image as a younger, niche brand doesn’t match the broader, more inclusive reach of American Eagle, The Wall Street Journal. In summary, American Eagle’s inclusive marketing, fabric innovation, broad demographic appeal, and robust scale give it a stronger foundation in today’s competitive retail landscape.
