Recently, on Dayton-Xenia Road and North Fairfield Road, extensive construction has been underway. On North Fairfield Road, from Lawson Drive to Fairwood Drive, the road is being widened to include a new center turn lane. They are also expanding the sidewalk on the east side of North Fairfield to follow Beavercreek City’s side path standards. The total cost of construction on this project is $2,300,00. Although all of this work will help improve the quality of the roads, local citizens have different views on the project. Evelyn Vogel, a junior at Beavercreek High School, stated, “With all of this construction happening on the roads, it causes traffic, which means I have to leave earlier to get to places since it sometimes causes back-ups.” There is also another reconstruction project taking place on this road. From Shakertown to Fairbrook School, crews are widening and reconstructing North Fairfield Road to add curbs, storm sewers, and a center turn lane. This project also includes the construction of pedestrian facilities on each side of the roadways and modifications to the roadway profile and horizontal alignment to improve driver visibility and increase safety. The total cost of this is $4,900,000. These new renovations may be nice, but some residents of Beavercreek believe that it was not needed. Vogel mentioned, “I think they could have been touched up a little, but I don’t think they needed a whole renovation.” Lastly, on Dayton-Xenia Road, from Meadow Bridge to Darlington, they are widening the road to expand it. The outcome will be expanding the road to five lanes from Meadow Bridge Drive to Hanes Road and three lanes from Hanes Road to Darlington Drive. This additionally involves installing new curbing and making improvements to the storm sewers. Reconstruction efforts to the side path along the north side of Dayton-Xenia Road, the addition of a new sidewalk along the south side, and alterations to the current traffic signal at Hanes Road and Meadow Bridge Drive are also underway.
