This year, the NBA will be changing the format of the annual All-Star Game. Rather than the traditional East vs. West game, the two highest vote-receiving players will be elected as team captains and pick from the pool of other players selected as All-Stars.

The new system was more than likely implemented to help even the talent field between the Eastern and Western conferences; the West has started overwhelming the East with the talent it has amassed. Many people, including myself, will be more interested in seeing the selection of the teams rather than the actual game itself. Now, there is the possibility of a player like LeBron James choosing players from his biggest rival, the Golden State Warriors, or he may select Kyrie Irving, who requested a trade from the Cavaliers so he would no longer have to play with the James.

When asked about his opinion on the new format, senior Alex Flick had this to say, “It’s a nice change to a game that has been struggling the past few years.” The All-Star game this year will take place in Los Angeles and will hopefully be an improvement to last year’s less-than-stellar game.
