On October 26th, mail bomb suspect Cesar Sayoc was arrested in South Florida after sending at least 13 packages to prominent Democratic politicians, donors, and CNN offices, including Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, which all contained small bombs. Sayoc has been charged with five federal crimes: interstate transportation of an explosive, illegal mailing of explosives, threats against former presidents and other persons, threatening interstate communications and assaulting current and former federal officers, which could earn him up to 48 years in jail. No one was injured in the attempted attacks, as the all packages were screened before making it to the 13 targets. Sayoc had a list of over 100 other other potential targets. President Trump called the attacks “terrorizing acts” and said he will do anything in his power to stop these actions from taking place. BHS junior Vansh Patel said, “That’s always a scary situation, but I’m glad no one was hurt.”

Unfortunately, this type of attack, through the mail, has been used before, most recently on Barack Obama when a letter laced with ricin, a deadly poison, was sent to the former President through the mail. Thankfully, Sayoc has been detained and another threat against political officials has been put to rest.
