Since the Beavercreek schools district is growing at a fast pace with more students coming to the district, the budget is being stretched more each year. In the next few years, $10 million will need to be cut out of the budget one way or another, if it’s even possible, in order for the district to prevent a deficit. If this cut were to be made, certain things would have to be cut from the schools. This includes teacher layoffs, removing some electives from the schools, getting rid of some bussing for students, and even discontinuing some school sports while adding fees to the ones that remain.

This can be stopped if the levy on this year’s midterm is passed. Last time it was put up to a vote, it was 50.4% to 49.6% against the issue. The levy will add “$217 per year per $100,000 in assessed property value. It would last five years and raise $11.4 million for the district” according to a WDTN interview with Paul Otten, the superintendent of Beavercreek City Schools. Today is the day to vote, so, if you’re old enough, go out and vote to change your local issues!
