The Beavercreek women’s lacrosse team is working hard this season to not only be victorious during seasonal games but also become GWOC champs this year. With a current record of 1-3, Beavercreek has certainly put up a fight against some difficult teams like Mason, Kings, and Milford. Despite this, the Beavers still look ahead positively, with the hope of improving along the way. Going into this season, the Beavercreek girls’ lacrosse players know what they want and have some major goals to achieve. Ophelia Brannon, a senior varsity player for BHS, stated, “We want to become GWOC champs, or at least win the first GWOC game.” While her teammate, junior Samantha Oxner, agreed, she also added, “We want to improve on the team chemistry.” With big goals like these, this means the team needs to focus and prepare for difficult games. Oxner stated, “The night before a big game, we tend to have a team dinner and a more low-key practice with less running.” Brannon also added, “Sometimes, we get slips with motivational quotes on them as well.” Now that the girls are four games into the season, they look back and examine what they performed well, or what could have been done better. Brannon stated, “The scrimmages went really well, we learned a whole new defense, and know it really well. The only thing to improve on is good communication.” While Oxner stated, “The past couple of games have been pretty good, we’ve played really well against some really good teams and won one of our games against Bellbrook in extreme conditions. We are really good with our stick skills and keeping the ball up, but we need to improve on giving ourselves smart opportunities to get the goal and be loud.” After reflecting on the season so far, Brannon stated, “The most challenges we have faced as a team are losing because we’ve been losing pretty bad,” and Oxner said, “Playing against harder teams at the beginning of the season is hard because it has been putting a damper on all of our hard work.” The Beavers play at home against Loveland tonight at 7, so go out and support your team!
