On January 12, Beavercreek High School had the grand opening of Common Grounds, a coffee stand for students to create the coffee of their choice. Located in the center of the cafeteria, the stand is open to all students in the morning before class starts, and it only costs two dollars for a cup. Mr. Scott, one of the assistant principals at Beavercreek and the head of this project, stated, “The idea emerged from a meeting between the Student Advisory Council and Mr. Ashley, the head of the Student Nutrition department. After brainstorming ways to get coffee and drinks from outside vendors, he decided that this was a project that he could do in house. Mr. Ashley continued to collaborate with students to generate menu ideas.” This project has been underway for months and has been deeply thought out in order to meet all the nutritional needs of students. Along with this, Mr. Scott also gave some feedback on how opening day went: “Opening day was great — there was a lot of positive feedback from students. Common Grounds is starting with a limited menu (coffee, cold brew) and will expand the menu over the next few months.” Although there are only two options to choose from right now, this is certainly a great way to start and still allows the menu to grow in the future. It seems as though opening day for Common Grounds was a success and will continue to be popular among BHS students. Upon seeing how opening day went, Mr. Scott commented on some of the changes that will be made to the stand: “The Student Nutrition department is continuing to work on the flow of the student line based upon their experiences this week. The menu will also expand once those processes get ironed out.” Overall, Common Grounds seems to be a big hit for Beavercreek High School and will attract lots of tired students in need of caffeine. If you have yet to visit Common Grounds, stop by one morning and give it a taste!
