Every year, seniors and juniors who participate in Beavercreek High School’s student council are given the opportunity to run for student council office. This includes treasurer, historian, vice president, and the coveted position of student council president. Our school’s student council president for the 2025-26 school year’s name is Mansi Desai, and she has organized and led school events with aplomb. The title of student council president is one of prestige, and Desai works hard to live up to this coveted position.
Leading student council is not an easy job. The council itself hosts dozens of events, including the blood drive, tree lighting, homecoming parade, and the homecoming dance. “My favorite event to organize is the homecoming dance,” Desai said when asked about the homecoming dance earlier this school year, “This is because I love helping my school and giving back to it and I feel as if contributing to plan the dance I am doing something big for the students at my school.” The homecoming dance is attended by hundreds of BHS students every year, and this would all not be possible without the student council.
This year for the first time, the council is hosting a movie night for elementary students within the Beavercreek district. This is just one example of how under Desai’s leadership the student council has strengthened its impact. However, organizing events like these is not simple. Step one in the event planning process, according to Desai, is to sit down and brainstorm, and in these brainstorms, student council comes up with their best ideas yet. After the brainstorming sessions, they create a to-do list and divide up tasks. This may sound simple, but when planning an event as big as the homecoming dance, it is not.
The hardest event to organize, according to Desai, is the homecoming parade. She explains, “This is because for the parade it takes a while to come up with a certain order to put the floats, close off the roads and is a lot of work the day of the event trying to maintain traffic.” This parade is fun for both the students and community alike and is representative of student council’s reach beyond BHS hallways.
Desai’s ability to lead the student council into a successful philanthropic program is admirable, and her qualities when it comes to planning and getting things done is a great example of the importance of getting involved to make an impact.
Keep an eye out over the next few weeks for information about how to apply for student council next year. Joining this amazing group is something you will not regret.
