Due to negative temperatures and a foot of snow, Beavercreek City Schools had three consecutive snow days. Students of BHS share their experiences from their unexpected break from school. From spending their days relaxing to binge-watching shows, students at Beavercreek did many things to keep occupied. Brooklyne Allen, a junior at Beavercreek, stated, “I watched ‘Queen Charlotte’ and ‘Finding Her Edge’ on Netflix. I also read a book.” Similarly to this, Cameron Paddock, another junior at BHS, stated, “I read a book and did absolutely nothing else.” Other students ventured outside the warmth of their homes and into the snowy weather. Beavercreek junior Morgan Drummond stated, “I went sledding with my friends.” Students also shared the best and worst parts of having three snow days in a row. Allen stated, “The worst part of having three snow days was being alone.” Drummond said, “The best part was I got to sleep in a lot and catch up on sleep and schoolwork. The worst part was that it’s been so long that I have forgotten what we’re doing in some of my classes.” Lastly, Paddock mentioned, “The best part was having nothing to do, and the worst part was having to come back.” To alert the families of Beavercreek City Schools, messages were sent out around noon every day informing them whether school would be canceled for the next day, rather than alerting them late at night or the morning of. Students of BHS shared their opinions about this change. Both Allen and Drummond agreed that being informed early was better than being alerted later in the day. Allen said, “I enjoyed the early alerts because I could make plans for the next day,” and Drummond stated, “I liked being notified early because then I was able to make plans for the day after ahead of time.” Paddock also enjoyed the early alerts but for a different reason: “I liked being told early because I was able to cancel my alarms for the next day.” These snow days have given students at Beavercreek a nice break to relax and recharge before returning to their usual schedules.
