It is officially May, which means the 2025-2026 school year is slowly coming to an end. As summer approaches, students at Beavercreek High School are beginning to feel the effects of end-of-year burnout. Being in the home stretch to summer is impacting students’ moods and motivation, since summer still feels miles away. A couple of students at BHS stated whether they feel more burned out at the end of the school year or at the beginning. Samantha Oxner, a junior at Beavercreek, stated, “I feel more burnt out at the end of the school year because at the beginning I’m excited to see my friends and stuff like that, but by the end I’m so busy with school that I can’t hang out with my friends.” Along with this, BHS sophomore Alexus Jordan said, “I feel the most burned out at the end of the school year because I’ve been here all year.” On the other hand, seniors attending BHS are feeling a bit differently. Mae Harrison stated, “I felt the most burnt out at the beginning of the school year because I had to start going back to school after summer. I also don’t feel as burnt out now because I’m a senior, and teachers are giving us more leniency.” Similarly, Brooklynn Tucker, another senior, said, “I felt the most burnt out in the beginning because everyone was stressing me out by saying I needed to get assignments done, and it was just like a constant talk about how the school year was going to end, but now it is almost over, and the end is the end.” This time of the year also brings a lot of stress to students, whether it is about sports or making decisions about the future. Oxner said, “What’s making this time of year for me the most stressful currently is lacrosse because it gives me ten times more things to do, and I’m at home a lot less, which means I also have less time to focus on school.” While Harrison is juggling decisions for her future and finishing up the last of her school work. She stated, “The most stressful thing currently is planning for college and having to try and finish all my work before senior early release.” The fact that summer is less than a month away is making this all a little better, though. Oxner stated, “Knowing that summer is so close is making me focus more because I’m trying to get to the finish line, and there is just like a light at the end of the tunnel.” Chloe Vogel, a freshman at Beavercreek, also added, “The thing that is keeping me motivated right now is knowing that summer is so close.” Even though stress is running high and motivation is running low, there are only a couple more weeks until the finish line, so keep your head up and push through because summer is right around the corner!
