Beavercreek, Ohio, has seen a lot of snow this winter, and while some are thrilled, others have different thoughts. A couple of weeks ago, a foot of snow covered the streets of Beavercreek, bringing snow days and a much-needed break from school; but now that these delays are gone, how are students really feeling about this weather? Students from BHS shared their real thoughts about this never-ending winter. Mae Harrison, a senior at Beavercreek High School, stated, “No, I don’t like this weather because it’s terrible, cold, and I have to walk very far to my car, and it’s freezing.” Other students had similar thoughts about these freezing temperatures and foot-tall snow piles. BHS junior Hailey Miller said, “I don’t like this weather because it is cold and snowing, and I don’t like those things.” This weather is certainly not being enjoyed as much as it was a couple of weeks ago, and is being resented with each new inch of snow that falls. Marin Robinson, another junior at Beavercreek, stated, “No, I don’t like this weather at all because it’s cold outside and I don’t like the cold.” Along with the below-freezing temperatures, this snow is not only bringing the cold, but also altering students’ everyday routines. Harrison mentioned, “I have to start bringing jackets to school, which makes me have to carry things, and I have to start my car twenty minutes before I leave in the morning, so if I wake up late, I have to drive in a freezing car.” Miller also said, “I’ve had to wake up early so I can clean up my car, and when it snows, I have to clear it off.” Robinson’s routine has also been altered in similar ways: “I have to make sure that I go out and start my car earlier, and I have to scrape it off in the morning. I also can’t drive for a little bit because I have to sit in the car and wait for it to warm up, so I get to school later.” Students also shared what the hardest part of this never-ending winter has been for them. Harrison stated, “When I walk into the highschool I can’t feel my fingers for about thirty minutes, and sometimes my car won’t start when it’s cold.” Miller said that it is her never-ending cold due to the freezing temperatures, “I keep staying sick because I have a lingering cold.” Lastly, Robinson mentioned the monotonous task of having to clear the snow off her car, “I have to keep scraping my car off, and then whenever I go somewhere, I have to do it again. I also have to keep shoveling the driveway.” It’s safe to say that the students at Beavercreek are eagerly waiting for this winter to end and for their schedules to return to normal.
