It is officially one of the most dreaded times in the school year for students: scheduling. Planning for the next year can be not only hard but also extremely stressful for high schoolers. A couple of students at Beavercreek High School shared what the past weeks leading up to scheduling have looked like for them, starting with what the most difficult parts of planning their schedule are. Marin Robinson, a junior at BHS, stated, “The hardest part of scheduling is the stress and making sure that I’m taking the right classes so I don’t hate myself next year. It’s also hard making sure that I have fun classes next year because it’s my senior year.” Beavercreek High School junior Hailey Miller also agreed with this statement: “The hardest part about planning my schedule is trying not to overload myself for next year.” Scheduling can be stressful for students for many reasons, but it seems as though the biggest concern is about making sure they are not signing themselves up for too much. Students are also feeling the pressure to take honors courses like AP and CCP (college credit plus) classes as well. Anne Fernando, a junior at Beavercreek, mentioned, “I feel like I’m pressured a bit to take those types of classes as I want my college application to look as good as it can, and I also want to be prepared for college.” Similarly, BHS junior Madylin Labenski said, “I feel pressured to take AP, CCP, and honors classes because I’ve always put high standards on myself for school, so sometimes I feel guilty if I don’t take a harder class. This affects my schedule because I end up taking too many hard classes that are difficult to manage without getting overwhelmed.” With schedules being finalized on Thursday, February 19, students at BHS reflect on their choices for the upcoming year. Evelyn Vogel, a junior attending Beavercreek, stated, “I feel like I’ll be happy with my choices since I’ll have a much easier schedule than I usually would have, but I do think I could’ve gone harder if I wanted to.” Labenski also stated, “ I feel confident in the classes I chose and know that I will have as little stress as possible. I could’ve done harder classes, but for senior year, I want to put myself first.” Now that scheduling is finally over, students can sit back and take a deep breath since a huge task is off their shoulders.
